Quan Powers is the current Dance Director at Martin Magnet Middle School with Wake County Public Schools in Raleigh, NC. A recent transplant from Dallas, TX, Quan brings over 15 years of experience as a Dance and Drill Team Director, where he successfully led various dance programs and developed students’ technical skills and artistry. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Dance from Stephen F. Austin University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Southwest College, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas. Quan is passionate about advancing dance education and has written curriculum for a state-approved Dance Appreciation Course, providing students with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the art form. In addition to his work as an educator, Quan is an advocate for dance education at the local and national levels, serving as an Advisor for the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) with the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO). His dedication to enriching the dance community and empowering students through dance education is evident in every aspect of his work. Quan’s move to Raleigh represents the next chapter in his journey of advocating for the value of dance and inspiring the next generation of dancers and educators.
As a member of the board, I would bring a strong commitment to enhancing the field of dance education and a strategic, results-driven approach to supporting the mission and goals of the NCDEO. I am highly organized and thrive in environments where careful planning, collaboration, and attention to detail are essential. My experience allows me to create structured frameworks to address challenges, streamline processes, and implement solutions that align with both short-term goals and long-term visions. I would contribute by developing actionable strategies to push dance education forward, such as designing initiatives that support curriculum development, professional development for educators, and advocating for policy changes that ensure equitable access to dance education. I value collaboration and would work closely with stakeholders, from educators to community leaders, to ensure the NCDEO’s goals reflect the diverse needs of the dance education community. With my organizational skills, I could assist in creating or improving programs that offer support and resources to dance educators. Additionally, I’m passionate about driving innovation in dance education by embracing new technologies and methodologies, helping to integrate forward-thinking practices, and advocating for the inclusion of diverse cultural dance forms. Ultimately, I am dedicated to fostering an environment where dance education is inclusive, accessible, and evolving to meet the needs of future generations, and I’m excited to contribute to the meaningful progress of the NCDEO.Â
