Lori Madl

Treasurer

Lori holds a BA in Dance from the University of Kansas, where she studied with Murial Cohen, Janet Hamburg, Willie Lenior, Jerald Hilding, and Patrick Suseau, and received additional training through conferences and workshops with Susan Warden, Alyce Bochette, Cynthia Arnellias, Gerry Houlihan, and Catherine Dunham. She earned an MA in Arts Administration from Indiana University, Bloomington, where she served as Associate Instructor of the African American Dance Company under Professor Iris Rosa. Madl has performed professionally at Six Flags St. Louis and with the Prairie Wind Dancers in Lawrence, Kansas. Her administrative experience includes work with BIG Arts on Sanibel Island and the Lee County Alliance for the Arts, where she founded Dance Alliance, a cooperative dance company. She served as Secretary of the Florida Dance Educators Organization (FDEO) from 2019–2023 and on the National Honors Society for Dance Arts and Florida Dance Performance Assessment committees. Madl has choreographed nearly 100 works for the Calendar Girls performance troupe for women ages 60+, featured in a documentary of the same name that premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and was celebrated at festivals worldwide. With over 20 years of teaching experience in private studios and public schools, including 15 years in Lee County, Florida, and Durham Public Schools, Madl currently serves as Dance Director at Northern High School where she collaborates with the Duke Arts program - Duke Fellows creating meaningful work with DPS and Duke students and the broader community.
