Deepen Your Knowledge: Elevate Your Teaching: Jazz Dance Workshop for Educators

July 16th-19th 2026 at UNC Greensboro. 

Join us for an exhilarating Jazz Dance Workshop designed specifically for all dance educators eager to refine their teaching methodologies, expand their movement vocabulary, and deepen their understanding of jazz dance pedagogy. This dynamic program offers a comprehensive exploration of musicality, movement quality, and progressive lesson planning, equipping instructors with fresh ideas and practical tools to enhance their classes. Led by renowned industry professionals and members of the Uprooted Educational Team, this workshop will provide hands-on training in jazz and African dance techniques,  improvisation, and ensemble practices, ensuring participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical strategies to engage students at various levels. Participants will explore:

• Explore the fundamental exercises of the Dunham Technique - deepen your understanding of the history and alignment principles that support each movement. Taught by our master teacher Candice Michelle Franklin

• Musicality and Rhythmic Sensitivity: Enhance your ability to teach phrasing, syncopation, “apart playing” and “get down”  to students of all skill levels.

• Choreographic Tools for the Classroom: Explore new ways to inspire creativity and adaptability in student choreography. Led by Camden Loeser

• Uncover the Rich Historical and Cultural Significance of Jazz Dance Practice: Led by one of the Uprooted’s leading Educators, Robin Gee. Robin will dig deep into the roots of jazz dance in Africa.

• Innovative Approaches to Jazz Pedagogy: Learn how to develop engaging, structured lesson plans that balance tradition with contemporary influences. This session is led by Christine Fisher.

• Community and Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow dance educators, share insights, and build lasting professional relationships.

• Dance educators wishing to earn CEU's will receive a certificate of completion equal to 30 contact hours for their participation in the workshop.

• Explore the foundations of the Jack Cole Technique with master instructor Cam Loeser and Lindy Hop with Candice Michelle Franklin
